What are Bolt-On Continuous Fence Clips?

A farm with a fence

Bolt-on continuous fence clips are pre-formed steel straps that attach fence rails to posts with bolts or self-drilling screws, no welding required. For ranchers and fence builders working with drill stem pipe, they let you build or repair continuous fence faster, without a welder, generator, or cutting torch anywhere in sight.

How Do Bolt-On Fence Clips Work?

Each clip is a formed steel strap that wraps around the rail pipe and seats against the post, with fasteners passing through pre-drilled or self-drilled holes to pull the assembly tight. Because the joint is mechanical rather than welded, you can assemble the whole connection with nothing more than a drill or socket wrench.

  • No welding required: Installs with self-drilling, self-tapping screws, ideal during burn bans or on remote jobs
  • Fits common drill stem sizes: Available for 1 1/4" through 2 7/8" pipe, in 10-gauge and 12-gauge steel
  • Works on wood or steel posts: The same clip secures rail pipe to either post material
  • Easy setup and disassembly: Simplifies repairs and panel replacement down the road

When Should You Use Bolt-On Clips Instead of Welding?

Welded continuous fence is strong, but it assumes you have a welder, power to run it, and the skill to lay a good bead; assumptions that fall apart fast in real conditions. Reach for bolt-on clips when you don't have a welder or power on site, when a burn ban or dry pasture makes open flame and hot work a fire risk, or when you need to open, move, or repair a section of fence later. A few screws come out much easier than grinding off a weld.
